As you’ll be aware, the humble skip has many uses. From making home renovation easier to assisting you in a large move. What you might not know is that there are several different types and sizes of skip, all with their own individual uses.
If you’re not sure what type of skip would be suitable for your needs, we’ll tell you exactly what you need to know to make sure you hire the right one.
The Mini Skip
The smallest type of skip available, most people won’t know they even exist. The mini skip is typically 2-3 cubic yards in size which means that it is perfect for those jobs where space is limited.
Capacity is much more than you would think with the ability to dispose of the equivalent of 25-35 bin bags of waste material.
Within your mini skip, you will be able to dispose of all types of general non-hazardous waste.
The Midi Skip
The midi skip is one of the most common types for domestic use. Capacity is rated at 4-5 cubic yards which can hold up to the equivalent of 35-45 full bin bags of waste, depending on what you are disposing of.
The midi skip is typically used for household refurbishment where a lot of old fixtures and fittings are to be disposed of. These can include old bathroom suites and kitchen cabinets and basically any type of general non-hazardous waste.
Midi skips will be delivered on the back of a smaller skip truck, again great for those locations with limited access.
The Builders Skip
The builders skip is another favourite for use in large household projects or on small commercial sites. Capacity is rated at 6-8 cubic yards which is plenty for most people’s needs. This equates to roughly 65-85 bin bags worth of rubbish.
Some builders’ skips are even available with access doors to make the disposal of large goods even easier.
Large Skips
The large skip takes us into the realm of commercial use. With a capacity of 12-14 cubic yards, large skips are perfect for disposing of large items of furniture.
It should be noted that due to their size, large skips are not suitable for disposing of heavy builders’ waste such as bricks and rubble as they become too heavy to safely lift and transport.
Instead, bulky items are much more suitable such as wooden crates, pallets and other general waste.
Roll On/Roll Off
The largest type of skip available, featuring a low and high-sided option. Anywhere from 15 to 40 cubic yards in capacity and with a cover that can be pulled over, these skips are great for a commercial office move.
Do note that not all will be suitable for certain items, especially the larger sizes of the skip.
As we said earlier, a skip to suit everyone. Skip operators can be found in any local directory so consult yours for a suitable company. Skip hire Staines offers the best services and always receives positive feedback. As always, shop around for the best price.
The right skip can make your life much easier so make sure you hire the right one for your disposal needs.
