Now that winter is changing into spring, you might want to look at giving your home a fresh look to suit this time of year. We look forward to bright colours, warm days and lots of seasonal celebrations – so why not give your bedroom, living room or kitchen the same effect? By using colours and soft furnishings, you can give your house a makeover without needing to break the bank. So if you are looking for a bit of springtime inspiration, look no further than this blog post!
Start with a lick of paint
If you want to bring the look of summer indoors, head to your local DIY store to find a warm colour of paint for your walls. You’ll be able to take home a few paint cards that you can bring home to mull over; you might even like to opt for two tones to give a sunset effect in your room. Make sure that the furniture that you own will match – or complement – your paint choice, or you may find yourself splashing out for a new sofa or bed.
Cushions to the rescue
If you don’t have the time for painting your entire home, or just a single room, look at making some smaller changes instead. One of the things that I notice always spruces up my sofa is a couple of new cushions. If you have a neutral sofa you can have a pair of cushions for every season. In the summer I tend to use colours such as reds, purples and pinks, but it is up to you to decide which colours are the best in your room.
Show your kitchen some love
You don’t just need to make changes in your living room and bedroom though; your kitchen can just as easily be given a spring and summer makeover. Think about the utensils and accessories you currently have in your kitchen; do they follow a theme? If not, you can find products that match (one of my favourite websites for this is homecolours.com) such as purple lampshades and purple glasses. You can also buy colourful splashbacks for behind your cooker top, so you can transform even a white kitchen into a bright space to live and work.
Clear your clutter
A slightly more unusual way to decorate is to actually get rid of a few of your belongings. Clutter can detract from the work you put into your house, so you can automatically make your room look and feel more spacious by clearing some of it. Once you have managed to throw away those old receipts and shopping lists, why not implement some new storage units to keep everything tidy in the future? You can choose bright shelving or drawers to fit in with your spring and summer theme too.
