Do you ever decide to take on a little bit of electrical DIY around the home? If so, more power to yourself for being prepared to take on the task and do it properly. However, electrical DIY can be quite dangerous if you don’t have a professional background in working with electricity. After all, it’s one of the fastest moving industries in the world – what worked even a few years ago might be totally irrelevant today.
Makeshift DIY jobs might help you get on with things around the house – and it might work just fine – but rarely are they a professional or artistically pleasing job. Instead, you might find that your quick work to save a few pounds is actually going to stop you from making many thousands of pounds when you finally decide to sell your home.
A survey that was carried out by TrustMark on the effectiveness of DIY electrical jobs found that, in the event of trying to sell the home;
- Up to 54% of potential buyers are put off by the prospect of the work – this can prevent them ever lodging an offer, as they don’t feel comfortable or safe with the quality or safety of the work
- Out of all the least attractive things to see from a DIY job in the electrical world, the most common thing that was putting buyers off was visible electrical wiring
- Nine out of ten of those asked in the survey would be put off by DIY electrical work, and as scuh would put in a smaller price to cover the costs
If you want to avoid this kind of irritating problem ever becoming a problem in your quests to sell your home, you might want to consider getting a more professional approach to your electrical issues. The last thing that you want to be dealing with is an electrical nightmare whereby your home is only running on a very basic electrical system that nobody is willing to shell out to fix in the future.
This can actively stop you from selling your home, nevermind reducing the value. You might have a level of expertise in setting up electrical systems but if you can’t make it look professional, people won’t care. If you need help in making the job look as good as it actually performs you should consider getting in touch with a local electrician for more assistance.
