One of the many reasons why people don’t like large homes is because of the space that can be hard to decorate. This means that they are simply missing out on the advantages of living in a large kit home. We collected some tips on how you can create an amazing living space in a large area without the awkward feeling that the said space may cause. Read below.
It’s all in the pain
Painting it using two tone walls can make the space accentuate the high ceiling and make the focus on the upward aesthetics instead on the landscape one. Painting color on your walls only part of the way up creates a cozier feeling, tricking the eye into thinking the ceilings are lower than they are. Pick calming colors like blue or green for the maximum effect.
Create designated zones
Large spaces can function as more than just a single room. It can create different purposes so you better be creative. Identify several possible functional areas within the room, such as a conversation zone (or two or three!), a media zone, an area for a writing desk, a console or a game table, a dining area or perhaps a reading area. This will make the whole space feel more functional and not useless.
Bold art designs
If you love art and culture, then the easiest way to fill up large walls is through putting up bold art designs. Single pieces of wall hung art work, dominating a facade, will make the entire room seem like it is more in proportion, even if it has not been filled with living room furniture. Alternatively, a single piece of functional sculpture, like a bespoke chimney flue, will help with the effect of making the room appear more cozy. In the end, it will all based on the theme of the house and how you want the whole function to feel.
Create an intimate space in a large room
Creating smaller spaces for chit chat can make the room more functional. Try tucking a small card table against a bare wall along with a pair of elegant chairs. You can use this space for reading, chatting or even a cozy dinner for two. These sections will add more purpose to any space.
Lighting
Lighting is key in successfully designing any room. For large rooms, there are often more windows, so during the day lighting isn’t as much of a concern. But shadows and dark corners can make everyone feel uneasy at night. If you have just one center ceiling light, you will likely want to add more light with lamps. Always make use of the natural lighting since it will make the space feel lighter.
Avoid wall hugging
Forbid attaching furniture near the walls. Again, you have a large space which means the designing can start at the center of the room. With a larger room you can pull seating out from the walls to create a much cozier conversation area around a focal point like a fireplace. Don’t fear empty walls, you can use wall space for art, buffets and consoles, benches and bookcases or additional conversation areas where the furniture can be pulled closer together.
Use dividers
Use dividers to identify the functions of the rooms and to make it the space more concise. Break up the space in your large room with some dividers. This way you create false walls that break up the visual look of the room. Dividers are a great addition to a central zone and can make them fell even cosier.
